In the beginning amidst the hallowed halls and laboratories at the heart of Cambridge University, a young and passionate PhD student immersed in research on using cutting-edge microfluidics and holographic biosensor technology on lab-on-chip (LOC) devices to detect Anthrax in small quantities, which was then a significant biothreat.
Then, he realised how pandemics and biothreat agents could easily spiral and escalate into something global, and yet how early detection could significantly save lives in such situations.
Additionally, his earlier experience of infectious diseases whilst growing up in Singapore and in the United Kingdom, also made him realise that despite having access to some of the world’s finest healthcare systems, personalised early detection and monitoring were key factors to enable better health everywhere.
Previously as a young child, he had a bout of simple influenza which progressed to almost life threatening pneumonia that resulted in weeks spent alone in an isolated hospital ward. This could have been prevented by early home screening before necessitating admission into the A&E Department, which also marked his first encounter with the traditional healthcare system.
Although this experience had affected him significantly at a young age, it would ignite a spark within him—a realisation that there had to be a way to make health testing more accessible and efficient for everyone.
Drawing upon his expertise and years of research work in a world-leading Cambridge laboratory , he envisioned a company that would revolutionise healthcare by harnessing his research to create portable, user-friendly diagnostic devices. These devices would allow individuals to conduct quality health tests conveniently at home, reducing the dependency on clinics and hospitals for routine checks.
Camtech was born in 2009 and our Founder’s Mission became clear: to empower people with the tools they need to take charge of their health, swiftly and accurately, without the barriers of geography or time. Through resilience and innovative spirit, he turned these experiences into a pioneering venture, transformed the landscape of healthcare diagnostics and touched countless lives since.
